Our Work

Core Practices

Land Transition and Protection

We work with landowners who are interested in permanently protecting land and buildings and making them available for use by future generations of farmers and other ecological entrepreneurs. Conduct cooperative explorations of future ownership/stewardship models that provide for ecological integrity, livelihood and local economy, and shared rights and responsibilities.  When there is alignment between landowner vision and Living Lands Trust mission, the Trust receives gifts of land and buildings, and donations to secure land, all for the perpetual good of people, community and the Earth.

Land Matters Support & Advising

We work collaboratively with our stewards, partners and allies on all manner of land and real property endeavors, from donations, purchases, and dispositions, to leases and licenses, easements, and covenants. We prioritize projects that support biodynamic and regenerative farm enterprises and/or serve as sources of physical, soul and spiritual nourishment.

Land Access & Stewardship

Our living lands are leased to farmers, ranchers and ecological entrepreneurs who are committed to biodynamic, organic farming and other regenerative land stewardship practices. Our lands make it possible to develop farms and enterprises without the extraordinary capital expense (and often debt) that's commonly associated with purchasing real estate. We provide lease opportunities to experienced and beginner farmers and entrepreneurs, and we work collaboratively to design long-term, mutually sustaining lease agreements that carry regenerative land stewardship across generations.

Land Trust Partnership

We are fortunate to have local land trusts hold conservation easements on our lands to provide added assurance that these places are perpetually protected and kept for the common good. Living Lands Trust is grateful to these partners for their commitment to land and place. We also depend on land trust partners to help develop important land projects that emerge in places where Living Lands does not have a presence, including community land trusts.
