Amy Bird is an artist, storyteller and perennial wayfarer. Inspired by the understanding that art is essential to healthy individual and cultural life, Bird has served as a leader in education and social finance non-profits for nearly three decades while maintaining a focus on the arts as an integral and centering constant. After learning how many traditional philanthropic foundations grant out only 5% of their holdings annually while continuing to invest and maintain control of the remaining 95%, Bird began searching for a way to visualize the impact of so much accumulated wealth being held onto in perpetuity rather than flowing back into society as gift. This inquiry, initiated in 2019, has become an ongoing project of creating collages from a single dollar bill – no more and no less. Bird lives in Arizona and is a member of Eye Lounge, an artist-run, contemporary art space in Phoenix. She is a past board chair of Local First Arizona (2022 – 2023) and worked from 2015 to 2025 as a lending relationship manager at RSF, a national non-profit committed to regenerative finance practices.
